It was said to Ibn Mubaarak: ‘What is the best thing one is bestowed with?’
He said: ‘An instinctive intellect.’
It was said: ‘If that is not the case? ‘
He said: ‘Good manners.’
It was said: ‘If that was not the case?’
He said: ‘A good friend he seeks advice from.’
It was said: ‘If that was not the case?’
He said: ‘Long periods of samt (this is observing silence and only speaking what is necessary or what is pleasing to Allah).
It was said: ‘If that was not the case?’
He said: ‘A hastened death.’
….
I think he says a hastened death because there is no more good left for this kind of person!
