} فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِن كُلِّ أمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَـؤُلاء شَهِيدًا{
رَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي أَوْ غَمَزَنِي رَجُلٌ إِلَى جَنْبِي فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي فَرَأَيْتُ دُمُوعَهُ تَسِيلُ
From ‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood (radhiyaAllaahu ‘ anhu) who said:
“The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘ alayhi wasallam) said to me:
“Recite the Qur’ân to me.”
He said: ‘So I asked: ‘O Messenger of Allaah, (how) should I recite to you whereas it has been sent down to you?’
He (the Holy Prophet) said:
“I desire to hear it from someone else.”
So I recited Soorah an-Nisaa’, till I reached the verse:
“How (will it be) then, when We bring from each nation a witness and We bring you (O Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘ alayhi wasallam)) as a witness against these people?”
I lifted my head, or a man beside me touched me to draw my attention, and so I lifted my head and saw his (the Prophet’s) tears falling.”

“And from this hadeeth of Ibn Mas’ood (radhiyaAllaahu ‘anhu) there are points of benefits:
– The recommendation of listening to the recitation, and paying attention to it and crying during it, and pondering over its meanings.
– The recommendation of seeking the recitation of someone else, so as to listen to it. And this is better than the understanding and the pondering over its meanings which is done by himself only.
– And the humility of the people of Knowledge and the people of virtue; even to their followers.

After a lengthy explanation, The Jurist of this era, Imaam al-Uthaymeen said:
“ So what is important to know is that it is permissible for a person to ask somebody else who is a reciter ; to recite for him, even though this reciter maybe less than him in knowledge.
This is because Allaah has bestowed upon some people a good voice and a good recitation; even though they might be of lesser knowledge. So there is no problem in saying ‘O so- and so , may Allaah reward you with good; please recite for me..’
This is so that maybe for him to strengthen what he has memorized, or maybe he wants to obtain a ruling from the verses; thus he seeks to hear the recitation.
And in this hadeeth we learn of the blessing of The Qur’ân; that it benefits both the reciter and the listener.
And there is no doubt that The Qur’ân is the greatest book which has the most blessings, and it is the most beneficial of books , and the most rectifying for the hearts , and it is the Book which The Lord is most pleased with.
We ask Allaah to make us and you amongst the People of The Qur’ân, those who act upon it in secret and openly, and they die while upon that state, and they live on that. And Allaah is the facilitator.”
