Imaam Shafi’ee and ‘ilm

وقال الشافعي رحمه الله :

Al-Imaam Shafi’ee –may Allaah have mercy on him- said:

طلب العلم أفضل من صلاة النافلة ،

Seeking knowledge is better than the voluntary prayer.

وقال:

And he also said:

ليس بعد الفرائض أفضل من طلب العلم ،

After the obligatory matters; there is nothing more excellent than knowledge.

وقال :

And he also said:

من أراد الدنيا فعليه بالعلم ، ومن أراد الآخرة فعليه بالعلم ،

The one who desires the world; then upon him is knowledge, And the one who desires the here-after; then upon him is knowledge!

وقال :

And he also said:

من لا يحب العلم فلا خير فيه فلا يكن بينك ، وبينه معرفة ، ولا صداقة ،

The one who does not love knowledge: there is no goodness in him. Thus let not there be any connection between you and him, nor any companionship.
