Tafseer Suratul Mulk – 7

TEXT OF VERSE 27-30

27. But when they will see it (the torment on the Day of Resurrection) approaching, the faces of those who disbelieve will be different (black, sad, and in grieve), and it will be said (to them): “This is (the promise) which you were calling for!”

28. Say (O Muhammad SallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam): “Tell me! If Allâh destroys me, and those with me, or He bestows His Mercy on us, – who can save the disbelievers from a painful torment?”

29. Say: “He is the Most Beneficent (Allâh), in Him we believe, and in Him we put our trust. So you will come to know who is it that is in manifest error.”

 قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَاؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَنْ يَأْتِيكُمْ بِمَاءٍ مَعِينٍ

30. Say (O Muhammad SallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam): “Tell me! If (all) your water were to be sunk away, who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?”

TAFSEER :

Meaning that: the place of the denial of the disbelievers and their pride; is when they were in the world. But when it is the Day of Recompense; and they see the punishment close to them: that denial and pride becomes bitter for them, and it becomes horrible to them, and their hearts will tremble, and with that; their faces will change, and they will be rebuked due to their denial, and it will be said to them: this is what you used to deny! Now today you see it with your own eyes, and the matters have turned for you, and the time for excuses has ended, and there does not remain except: tasting the punishment.

And as the rejecters of the Prophet (SallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to wait for his destruction, and to wait for a calamity to strike him : Allaah commanded him to tell them: ‘As for you, even if what you wish for was to really happen; such that Allaah destroys me and those with me ; that will not benefit you anything!

This is because [in any way] you have disbelieved in the message of Allaah, and thus you have become deserving of the punishment, so who is going to save you from the painful punishment which is very close to happen to you?’ So your toiling and your diligence in my destruction is not beneficial, and there is no honour for you in any way.

And among their statements which they used to say is that; they are the ones who are upon guidance and that the Prophet (SallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) is upon deviance.

And on that [statement and belief] they treaded, and lasted, and debated him, and even fought him.

Thus Allaah informed him to tell them about his condition and the condition of his followers – a statement with which will clarify to everyone; their guidance and their piety. And that is that they say:

{ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا }

” in Him we believe, and in Him we put our trust..”

And Eeman (belief) comprises of inner testification, and outward and apparent actions.

And as actions – their occurring and their presence- is conditioned by facilitation from Allaah and by having Tawakkul (reliance and trust on Allaah) ; Allaah specified it in mentioning it from all other actions. Even though it is included in the generality of ‘Eeman.

And this inclusion of Tawakkul being a part of Eeman is as when He, The Exalted said:

{ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ }

..and put your trust in Allâh if you are believers indeed.” [1]

Therefore if this is the condition of the Prophet (SallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) and his followers – and it is the only condition of success, and upon it is facilitation onto bliss- and that the condition of his enemies is opposite to this; then that means they [the disbelievers] have no Eeman (belief) and no Tawakkul (reliance and trust on Allaah): and upon that, it is therefore known; who is upon guidance and who is upon clear misguidance.

Then Allaah informed of His Uniqueness in being the Bestower of favours, and in specific the favour of water; of which from it Allaah has made life of everything.

So He said:

{ قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَاؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا }

Say (O Muhammad SallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam): “Tell me! If (all) your water were to be sunk away,?”

{ فَمَنْ يَأْتِيكُمْ بِمَاءٍ مَعِينٍ }

Who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?”

..With which you will drink from, and to supply to your cattle and your trees and your farming?

And this question is in the meaning of negation. Meaning there is no one who is capable of that except Allaah The Exalted. [2]

So from His favours and His bounties is that He has made the water available for you on the surface of the earth in all the lands; in proportion to what the creatures need in its little and large quantity.

So from Allaah are all favours, and to Allaah alone belongs all Perfect Praise.[3]
