The Medicine And The Cure Of
The Diseases Of The Hearts And The Body

The Prophet SallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam said :
وقد تركتُ فيكم ما لم تَضلُّوا بعدهُ إنْ اعْتَصَمْتُم به: كتاب الله
“And I have left for you that which if you hold on to ; you will never go astray ;
[it is] The Book of Allaah…”
The Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) left the Book of Allaah. And it is fortified and protected from distortions, and changes, and increases, and/or decreases.
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ
“Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur’ân) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).” 
Therefore it is as he had left it ; until it is raised up in the end of times.
Holding on to it; is the way out of fitna (trials and tribulations), and it is the un-tying of difficulties and depressions.
And it is the medicine and the treatment of the sicknesses of the heart and the body.
Thus, the one who holds on and sticks to the Book Of Allaah – he will never go astray in this world nor in the here-after.
And statements about The Qur’ân and incitement to it ; is a matter that has come in [many] texts. So there came the encouragement on recitation of the Qur’ân, and on understanding of the Qur’ân, and on learning the Qur’ân, and on contemplation of the meanings of the Qur’ân.
In regards to the Muslim: Recitation of The Qur’ân is a matter that is sought, and there has come a motivation in that – that for every letter recited; its reward is ten good deeds.
And in specific, for the Student of knowledge who is adamant on the legislated knowledge; this command is more emphasized.
And from the sad matters is that some of those who ascribe themselves to the legislated knowledge; they are careless about The Qur’ân. He is more attentive in what he thinks are the knowledge based rulings/principles; so you see him from one sitting of knowledge to another following the classes of hadeeth and fiqh : while he is one who abandoned The Book of Allaah!
While knowledge and light: all of them are in The Book Of Allaah.
And Indeed the increase of Eeman and certainty; it is brought up by contemplation and pondering over The Qur’ân.
So ponder over The Qur’ân if you seek guidance — And knowledge is under pondering The Qur’ân
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ أَمْ عَلَى قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَا
“Do they not then think deeply in the Qur’ân, Or are their hearts locked up (from understanding it)?” 
And the command to ponder over The Qur’ân is in four different verses.
And there also came the command of Tarteel [recitation according to it rules and in a slow rhythmic tone].
In any anyway, the status of the students of knowledge in regards to The Qur’ân is not pleasing. And this is many of them; I am not saying all of them. There are those who – Alhamdulillaah- have a routine daily portion of The Qur’ân which they never leave; whether they are travelling or in residence. This is present [among some].
But surely it is upon us to focus more on The Qur’ân.
Shaykhul Islaam ibn Taymiyyah – rahimahullah- says:
“Whoever recites The Qur’ân in the manner that is commanded – meaning by tarteel, and pondering over the meanings, and understanding it, and beautifying the voice – he will inherit in his heart ; [increase in] Eeman , and certainty, and tranquility of which no one can archive except a person who does so.”
This is something that Shaykhul Islaam mentioned and emphasized upon, and also Ibn Qayyim. And their books are filled with this. And also other Scholars other than them, who are cognizant of the cures of the hearts.
Thus you will find [even]the one who apparently follows the [Islamic] rulings; but he is neglectful about this great matter and this ever successful cure of the diseases of the heart ; you will find him in heedlessness.
Many people complain of the hardness of the hearts, and a majority of the people complains of heedlessness, and lack of concentration and focus in the Prayers.
The reason of this and its main cause is: the abandoning of The Qur’ân. Whether the abandonment in reality or in the legislations.
In any case; The Qur’ân and the command of being diligent on it, is a matter that is abundant in the texts of the Shari’ah. And the Scholars have emanated this and clarified it.
So, there does not remain except actions.
